Jan is a highly skilled and gifted therapist who brings to her clients a rich synthesis of experience and creative techniques.  She approaches therapy from a holistic, family systems perspective with emphasis on brief therapy techniques including: cognitive-behavioral, dyad attunement, narrative, guided imagery, play therapy, and mindfulness (the art and skill of living in the present).  Jan encourages clients to embrace their own inner strengths and personal wisdom, which promotes healthy patterns, greater awareness, and an ability to handle stressful situations.  Her loving, caring presence supports them in feeling safe and respected.

Jan received her Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland and has worked for over 25 years in various health care settings including medical hospitals, residential treatment programs, and outpatient mental health clinics.  She is licensed (LICSW) as a Clinical Social Worker by the State of Vermont and keeps current with advances in therapeutic techniques through continuing education and seminars.  Through the years, Jan has received training in a variety of areas including play/child/family/couple/group therapy, sexual abuse and trauma, the chronically/acutely ill child and adult, grief and loss, adoption and attunement, anxiety and panic, OCD, stress management, developmental disorders (including ADHD, NLD, autism spectrum), women's development, and self-esteem.
