I received my Masters in Counseling in 1972 from New York University. The focus of my therapeutic perspective is to encourage clients to embrace their strengths and dreams, have compassion for, and understanding of how they were hurt and to re-envision and re-create their lives to reflect their personal ambitions.
My work experience has involved individuals from the inner cities to rural settings, health, mental health, prison facilities, youth programs, crisis work and private practice. My extensive diversity training combined with my work experience has taught me about the complex reactions and responses we have to feeling isolated from the mainstream.
I am experienced with “at promise” youth, adolescence through 24. I use the term “at promise” as I believe the name directs the behavior. Assisting young people through developmental issues of adolescence, the difficulties they encounter and the psychic challenges these conflicts present is the focus of my therapy.
My work with adults centers around life transitions, trauma, anxiety and depression, grief and loss, and anger management. I work with a trauma model which involves creating safety in the present, reflection on historic influences and developing new perspectives. My training includes EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, studies with the International Society for the Study of Dissociative Identity Disorders and the Gestalt Institute of the Berkshires, as well as continuous workshops to enhance my understanding and skills.
My office is on a bus route, is on the second floor but arrangements can be made to accommodate clients who need a handicapped accessible space. I schedule evening appointments and will send you a packet including my personal profile before our first meeting.
